Three Bridges Primary School
We were asked to create a Peace Garden for staff and children at one end of a busy playground. The design was inspired by the local Three Bridges landmark from which the school takes its name, where the road travels over the canal which in turn flows over the railway below. A numeral “3” is picked out by the “railway” path – interestingly, the children immediately understood this as soon as construction of the garden began, whereas the adults were rather slower to catch on! The school’s very active Gardening Club looked after the planting scheme, which we designed very simply by incorporating three Primary Colour beds in which the children could place their own plants. The next year, the school beat 17 other schools in the borough to win the Ealing in Bloom competition.
